What We Support

Foundation Hospice Care PatientHospice care is for any terminally ill patient who has chosen to forego curative or life-prolonging treatment to focus on palliative care and living live to the fullest. The goal of hospice and palliative care is to treat the patient’s symptoms to ensure overall comfort towards the end of life. Hospice care focuses on pain and symptom management, spiritual guidance and support, along with family and caregiver support. Services can be offered in the patient’s own home, at an assisted living or skilled nursing facility or at the OSF HealthCare Richard L. Owens Hospice Home

OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home

When families make the difficult decision to shift focus from battling illness to seeking comfort and peace, the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home provides the specialized end-of-life care they need. The Hospice Home allows terminally ill patients to receive 24-hour comfort care in a home-like, serene setting. It is the first hospice home in central Illinois and only the fourth such facility in the state of Illinois.

Since opening in March 2013, we care for more than 300 patients and touch the lives of more than 6,000 family members and loved ones each year. Your gift to the Hospice Home supports our continued Mission to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to those nearing the end of life. In addition, gifts to the Hospice Home support grief counseling, respite care, volunteer orientation and education.

The OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home endowment was created to provide for the hospice home and families served, ensuring ongoing resources to support the needs of hospice patients and families in our care. Every year, OSF Hospice Home touches the lives of more than 6,000 patients, family and loved ones who are facing the end of this life’s journey. Our Sisters consider it a privilege and a blessing to be with people as they transition from this life to the next, caring and loving them into eternity. Located behind the OSF Center for Health on Rt. 91 in Peoria, IL, the Hospice Home is a compassionate place of end-of-life care available to all, not just OSF patients. The Hospice Home Endowment offers annual support to provide for needs of hospice patients and families in our care…needs that are outside of the scope of the traditional insurance benefit for hospice care.

Foundation Sister Judith Ann Duvall

Hospice is about cherishing the gift of life to the full until God transforms that gift into eternal life. It is about supporting individuals with competent, compassionate caregivers so they can make that journey well with their family and loved ones in the face of chronic, progressive or life-threatening illness.
