The OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute enables Peoria to be a destination for those with oncological diagnosis where they will receive the most advanced treatment for their disease. It will house some of the most advanced technology including the proton beam which is vitally important for the treatment of certain cancers particularly those in children. The proton beam is the most complex medical device with capabilities to drastically reduce side effects from treatment because it is less toxic than chemotherapy and standard radiation therapy. The burden of cancer will be reduced because of the proton beam.

Topping Off Ceremony
A Topping Off Ceremony for the new cancer institute was held April 28th. This centuries-old tradition of the construction and builders’ trades is held when the final beam is placed on top of a structure during the construction process.
