A Daughter’s Reflection

Hospice Home exteriorHospice care is for any terminally ill patient who has chosen to forego curative or life prolonging treatment to focus on palliative care instead. The goal of palliative care is treat the patient’s symptoms to ensure overall comfort towards the end of life. Hospice care focuses on proper diet and nutrition, family and caregiver support, pain and symptom management along with spiritual guidance and support. These services can be offered in the patient’s home, at an assisted living facility or at the OSF HealthCare Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.

OSF HealthCare is dedicated to serving our patients with the greatest care and love. This means ensuring not only the patients’ comfort, but also the families’ comfort and relief. Choosing hospice care for a family member can be a difficult decision. But with the support and care of the OSF staff, difficult decisions are met with comfort and ease.

Rose recently had to make this decision for her mother, Priscilla. Priscilla lived a bold life full of travel, education and support from her loving family. With age, Priscilla’s health was quickly declining. When it came time to choose hospice care, Rose and Priscilla had questions and reservations. But when a caregiver suggested the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, their concerns vanished and they were immediately surrounded with the love and care from their support team at the Hospice Home.

From the minute Priscilla entered her private room at the Hospice Home, she knew she was right where she needed to be. Rose recalls how supportive the staff was, from the volunteers to the doctors, everybody gave her mother the attention and care she needed during those final days to ensure she remained comfortable and pain-free. Rose is forever grateful for the OSF Hospice Home and how they gave her mother, Priscilla, the peace she needed when she needed it most.

OSF Hospice Home has served patients like Priscilla for over six years. Since opening, they care for more than 300 patients and touch the lives of more than 6,000 family members. Your gift to the OSF Hospice Home supports our Mission to provide the highest quality, compassionate care to those nearing the end of life.
